Vertical gardens in the new bus station of Cadiz

Location: Cadiz

Petitioner: JBF Engineers & Architects

Year:
December 2010

JBF Engineers & Architects worked with engineers and architects from Terapia Urbana and have projected two passive vertical garden systems integrated into future bus station in Cadiz, promoted by the infrastructure manager of the Andalusian GIASA. The first of these, with an area of 36 m2 (9×4 m), will be positioned at 2.80 m high, closing the prospect area bus arrival docks in the back of the building. The second passive vertical garden, smaller in size, with 12 m2 (4×3 m), is located in the reception area inside the building, next to the information desk, providing substantial environmental and landscape improvements to this urban space. Both gardens will have advanced remote control and automation systems, which will regulate and monitor critical parameters to assist in the proper functioning and survival of the gardens. Irrigation will be performed in a closed circuit and recirculated so that the management of water resources is correctly optimised. The project´s status already has planning permission and is currently under implementation.
