Facade Vegetated Green Roof Proposed by Business Center

Facade Vegetated Green Roof Proposed by Business Center

Location: Panama

Petitioner: ARQ21

Year: 2011

ARQ21 Architects have collaborated to develop integrated urban greening systems in the architectural proposal for a high-ended business center building. This projects integrates passive systems, vertical landscaping combined with landscapes of hanging plants on its walls, and green roofs on terraces.  These innovative approaches are sustainable use of greywater for use in building the irrigation of green areas.

The current state of environmental awareness in developed societies is causing a change in the way of designing new buildings. The need to optimise resources has resulted in a decrease in energy demand and alternative energy use in buildings. Inclusion of plants into the design of these systems is seen as environmentally friendly in those who come into contact with the vertical garden and also bettering their brand image in the development of the Enterprise Centre.
The building has an area of 40.000m2 for offices, 43 plants, two underground parking lots, ground floor access and reception area, two meeting rooms and rest areas, leisure, two technical plants for facilities and maintenance, and 37 floors of offices with flexible typologies allows different subdivisions, from approximately 200m2 to 1000m2.

The building appears as an element that comes from the earth, its irregular shape and rotational potential can seek energy production through solar collection plates, in sunny facade these plates also serve as sunshaders. In the more shaded areas of the facade, there are similar hexagonal plates, but in shades of green, represtenting the forest once again typical of this area, and providing a better use of natural light. In addition, the building has on its east and west facades green terraced areas of vertical gardens and hanging plants.
